CFA member helped stop a negative reference to flowers
MONROE, USA, January 12, 2013: Dave Rubino of Plumb Farms Nursery & Flowers of Prospect contacted Julia's Bakery in Orange, Connecticut after he saw their ad for netcakes.com in the December 6 New Haven Advocate that read, "Tired of sending flowers to distant loved ones?"
Rubino countered, "We are a local florist, and as a fellow small business we need all the positive public messaging we can get during the recession."
Jeff Chandler, owner of the bakery, replied quickly, "I'm so sorry, and we certainly didn't intend to cause harm to any florists. I know it's been a tough recession for all small business, especially florists. We'll change our wording in future ads, maybe to say: 'Send a cake along with the flowers!'"

Eric Moor wins Dutch Horticultural Entrepreneur Award
LISSE, the Netherlands, January 10, 2013: Dutch junior economic affairs minister, Ms Sharon Dijksma, presented the 2013 Dutch Horticultural Entrepreneur Award to orchid grower Eric Moor on January 9 at a reception for the New Year at Keukenhof in Lisse, the Netherlands.
Now in its 27th year, the award recognises progressive growers who embrace technology and modern production practices, market innovatively, deliver strong customer service and demonstrate industry leadership.
Eric Moor is managing director and company owner of Sion. Founded in 1993 as production company of Phalaenopsis, Sion has rapidly evolved into an internationally recognised supplier of Phalaenopsis young plants. Moor chose to diversify into young plants because of the product’s structural shortage of good varieties and a desire to explore what can be changed for a progressive orchid future. A no nonsense business culture, tried an tested Phalaenopsis varieties with a clear focus on exotic novelties combined with a never seen before openness in relationships with growers are Moor’s strongest assets.

Her Majesty turns heating off in Sandringham's glasshouses to save money
by Richard Kay
SANDRINGHAM, UK, January 9, 2013: Who could forget the proud face of Prince Charles as he led Alan Titchmarsh around his beloved organic gardens at Highgrove for a remarkably candid BBC programme into HRH’s passion for horticulture? Sadly things are rather bleaker at Sandringham, where the Queen, I can reveal, has decided to turn off the heating in her greenhouses to save money.
The royal residence near King’s Lynn has 65 acres of garden with several glasshouses where traditionally Her Majesty brings on her own young plants, such as dahlias, in the spring for planting out in the garden each summer. But not this year.
